23 US states: Nearly two dozen US states have filed lawsuits against the health care funding cuts.
The state attorneys general filed the lawsuit in federal court in Rhode Island against the Trump administration, including New York, Colorado, Pennsylvania and the District of Columbia.
The lawsuit alleges that the Trump administration illegally cut $11 billion in funding, which would seriously harm public health and increase the risk of future outbreaks.
The court is asking the government to immediately halt the cuts, as the funds were earmarked for COVID-19 testing, vaccination and mental health programs.
The US Department of Health and Human Services declined to comment on the cuts, but said the funds would not be lost after the pandemic is over.
The decision puts thousands of jobs at risk and will negatively impact disease prevention efforts.
