Syrian forces: According to a monitoring group keeping tabs on the Syrian conflict, security forces and their allies have killed over 300 Alawite civilians in the last few days in clashes with militants thought to be loyal to Bashar al-Assad’s former government.
Syrian forces, The new Syrian government is currently dealing with its most intense attacks to date, according to the AFP news agency, and the attacks are being carried out by fighters from Bashar al-Assad’s minority Alawite group. Security forces have responded to the attacks with a massive military operation in the Mediterranean coastal areas, which started Thursday after violent clashes.
The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported on Saturday that 311 Alawite civilians were killed by security forces and their allies in the coastal area. The Observatory said the men were “executed in the field” by security forces or fighters loyal to the government, and their homes and properties were looted.
The deaths of these civilians brought the death toll to 524, including 120 pro-Assad fighters and 93 members of the security forces of the new government. Syria’s interim president, Ahmed al-Sharaa, called on rebels to “lay down their arms and surrender before it is too late” on Friday after the state news agency SANA reported on Saturday morning that remnants of the deposed government had attacked the national hospital in the coastal city of Latakia, with public security forces repelling the attack.
