The IMF has approved this relief for the government, which has recognized the decision to maintain oil prices for 3 months and if global prices decrease further, its fiscal impact could reach Rs250 billion, however, the relief of Rs1.30 per unit will be available only for one month.

According to the report, officials of the Finance and Power Division are considering various options to reduce the price of electricity by another Rs2 per unit, which will be finalized before the Prime Minister’s announcement on March 23.

Sources say that the government aims to implement a reduction of Rs 6 out of the Rs 8 per unit reduction as a permanent adjustment. However, the government has decided that the Rs 35 PTV fee will be removed from electricity bills from July 2025. In the budget for the next fiscal year 2026, the government plans to allocate funds to practically operate PTV.
