Pakistan’s strategy ready: The government has developed an effective strategy on the issue of a 29 percent US tariff on Pakistani products; the Prime Minister has formed two high-level teams.

Pakistan’s strategy ready, On the instructions of the Prime Minister, a steering committee and a working group were established. Both teams will negotiate with the US on the issue of additional tariffs. Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb has been appointed as the convener of the 12-member steering committee, and Commerce Secretary Jawad Pal has been appointed as the convener of the working group.

The 19-member working group also includes relevant secretaries and business figures. The Prime Minister will be kept informed of the progress on the US tariff issue. The committee members include federal ministers, special assistant to the Prime Minister, Chairman FBR, Foreign Secretary, Ambassador to the US, Representative to the WTO, Dr. Ijaz Nabi, Minister of Trade and Investment in Washington and Secretary of Commerce.

The terms of reference of the steering committee were also issued, according to which the working group will analyze the US tariffs and formulate recommendations. The potential impact of additional US tariffs on Pakistani products will be assessed. The working group will also analyze the opportunities available in the changing global trade conditions.
