At least 602,000 children: The Health Ministry in the Gaza Strip has described Israel’s blocking of polio vaccines as a “ticking time bomb.” Israel’s move could spark an outbreak in the region.
The Health Ministry said in a statement that if the polio vaccine is not delivered immediately, 620,000 children in Gaza could face permanent paralysis and permanent disabilities.
The statement, according to Al Jazeera TV, said that the disruption to the supply of vaccines would undermine the efforts made over the past seven months and would have serious and devastating consequences, adding to the already strained and targeted health system.
It would also exacerbate social and economic problems. The ministry called on relevant international organizations to pressure Israel to ensure the delivery of polio vaccines to Gaza.
