Fearing tariffs

Fearing tariffs, It should be noted that more than 50 countries contacted the US on an emergency basis after the announcement of the tariffs. While some countries have decided to eliminate tariffs on US imports.

Among the same countries are Vietnam and Taiwan, which, fearing US tariffs, have offered zero duties on US imports.

Vietnam immediately responded to the US’s 46% tariff on its goods by completely eliminating tariffs on US imports. The move followed a “very productive” phone call between Vietnamese leader Tu Lam and President Trump over the weekend. Notably, Vietnam was imposing a 90% tariff on US goods, which Trump had to counter with new duties.

According to foreign media, in a telephone conversation with US President Trump, Vietnamese Communist Party leader Tuol Sleng asked him to delay the implementation of the tariffs for at least 45 days to give the two countries time to negotiate on the issue.

The US president said on social media that he would consider the offer in a meeting with the Vietnamese leader soon.

Another Asian country, Taiwan, has also offered zero tariffs on US products. On Sunday, Taiwanese President Lai Cheng-tae promised to remove trade barriers with a 32% US tariff.
