According to the daily Jang, the increasing fees in private medical colleges have been a long-standing issue for the public, students and parents. The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council had previously discussed this issue in its meetings on June 4, 2022, December 10, 2023, and February 23, 2024.

Furthermore, as per the decision of the council on February 27, 2025, a subcommittee was formed under the chairmanship of Professor Dr. Masood Gondal, which presented a comprehensive analysis after consulting various stakeholders, including representatives of private institutions and the Pakistan Association of Medical Institutions (PAMI), during three meetings.

In the light of detailed financial review and recommendations of the subcommittee, the Committee on Medical Education Reforms decided that the annual tuition fee for private medical and dental colleges will be fixed at Rs. 18 lakhs, with the annual fee increase based on the Consumer Price Index (CPI).

This fee will be applicable for five years for MBBS and four years for BDS. The fee structure will be announced publicly, and its full implementation will be ensured to maintain transparency.
