Hearing in NEPRA: A formal hearing has begun at the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) on the government’s request for further reduction in the price of electricity in the country.

Hearing in NEPRA

Hearing in NEPRA, According to private TV channel Express News, the hearing, chaired by Nepra Chairman Waseem Mukhtar, is being held on the request to reduce electricity by Rs 1.71 per unit. According to Power Division officials, the government has submitted this request to SEPRA after approval from the cabinet, demanding that this reduction be applied uniformly to all electricity distribution companies, including K-Electric.

Officials say that this possible reduction in the price of electricity will be made through an increase in tariff subsidy, so that consumers can get direct relief, however, Power Division officials clarified that this reduction will be only for general consumers and will not benefit the lifeline, i.e. low-income consumers who use the least electricity.

After hearing the positions of the parties on the government’s request in the Nepra hearing, a decision will be taken regarding the reduction in the price of electricity by Rs 1.71 per unit.

It may be recalled that yesterday, the Prime Minister announced a reduction in electricity prices by Rs 7.41 per unit, which will be applicable to all consumers across the country. Similarly, a major company has been announced to reduce the price of electricity for industries.
