The US Social Security Agency distributes about $1.6 trillion in benefits each year and covers about 67 million US citizens. The agency has been undergoing massive cuts in recent months, with the goal of laying off thousands of employees.
The Trump administration claims that these measures are aimed solely at eliminating fraud and limiting access to illegal immigrants.
Biden did not mention any campaign or future political plans in his speech, but his statements made it clear that he strongly disagrees with the current administration’s policies and considers them dangerous to the American people.
