National Food Security announces: INP The Ministry of National Food Security and Research has taken a major step towards environmental sustainability and compliance with international agreements by announcing a complete ban on 12 toxic pesticides, which are used excessively despite causing harm to health and the environment.

According to media reports, the decision was taken at a meeting chaired by the Ministry’s Secretary, in which key stakeholders and experts discussed in detail the increasing dependence on methyl bromide and its implications. These pesticides, which were earlier used to control pests in important crops like wheat, cotton, rice and vegetables, have now been linked to severe environmental degradation, pollution of water sources and adverse health effects among farmers and consumers.

Their continued use has been a cause of concern for both local experts and international regulatory bodies.
