Strict action has been taken against those violating the new traffic rules in Karachi.
According to private TV channel Dunya News, side railings, underruns, GPS and cameras have been made mandatory in heavy vehicles, buffer plates have been made mandatory in oil tankers, while drug and fitness tests will be conducted on drivers.
Strict action will be taken against tankers dumping water on the roads, helmets, chain covers, lights and number plates have been made mandatory for motorcyclists, motorcyclists will be required to stay in the left lane and fines will be imposed for violations.
ANPR cameras will be used to monitor those who break red signals and drive in the wrong lane, an additional fine of Rs 2,500 will be imposed for repeated violations of the rules, and the entry of motorcycle rickshaws has been banned on 5 major highways, including II Chandigarh Road, Shah rah-e-Faisal, Khaliq-uz-Zaman, Sarshar Suleman and Rashid Minhas Road.
Traffic police say that more restrictions will be imposed to improve traffic flow and reduce accidents.
