Riyadh: Closed-door talks

Riyadh: Closed-door talks, Earlier, talks between the US and Ukrainian delegations were held in Saudi Arabia yesterday. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss a temporary ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine. The Black Sea project will also be discussed in the talks.

The Russian delegation includes former diplomat Rego Kirsin, who currently heads the Foreign Affairs Committee in the Russian Union Council. In addition to him, Sergei Bassist is also participating. He is an advisor to the head of the Federal Security Service. Contrarily, the US delegation is headed by Andrew Pack, who is responsible for European affairs in the National Security Council. In addition, Michael Anton, a senior policy planning official in the Foreign Ministry, is also participating.

US National Security Advisor Mike Pence made it clear yesterday that his country would discuss a ceasefire in the Black Sea so that Russia and Ukraine can move grain and fuel and resume trade.

On the other hand, Ukrainian Defense Minister Rassam Umarov assured yesterday that the talks with the US delegation in Riyadh were “productive and focused on the subject.” Umarov chaired his country’s delegation in the talks.

The Defense Minister added that the main points were discussed with the US team, including energy.

It should be remembered that the US had proposed a temporary 30-day ceasefire between Kiev and Moscow a few weeks ago. This ceasefire would stop all types of attacks, especially targeting infrastructure and energy facilities.

However, Russia has expressed reservations in this regard and also indicated that it would stop attacks on energy facilities.

Ukraine has assured that it is ready for a ceasefire. Meanwhile, it demanded that Moscow be committed to seriously engaging in a permanent and sustainable peace.
