The government announced: The National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Interior has approved the Pakistan Citizenship Act Amendment Bill 2024. The bill aims to restore citizenship to Pakistanis who had to give up their Pakistani citizenship to obtain citizenship in foreign countries.

The government announced, During the discussion on the bill in the Standing Committee, a representative of the Law Ministry said that in the past, Pakistanis were given local citizenship in some countries, but in return, they had to give up their Pakistani citizenship. Now the government is bringing an amendment to restore the Pakistani citizenship of such people so that they do not lose their original citizenship.

On this occasion, Director General Passports Mustafa Jamal Qazi said that earlier Pakistan did not have dual citizenship agreements with 22 countries, but now agreements have been made with these countries, after which Pakistani citizens will no longer have to give up their Pakistani citizenship while obtaining dual citizenship.

The chairman of the committee, while supporting the bill, said that there is no objection to it, and all such Pakistanis should get their citizenship back.

The issue of arms licenses was also discussed in the meeting.

Briefing the committee, the Minister of State for Interior said that all provinces are issuing arms licenses, while in Islamabad, many licenses were issued in the past, in which some inappropriate issues also came to light.

Talal Chaudhry said on this occasion that now members of the National Assembly will be given an arms license with the approval of the Prime Minister.

He said that licenses for prohibited activities have been opened, but they will be issued in limited numbers. Talal Chaudhry clarified that prohibited bore licenses will be given to persons recommended by the members of parliament on a limited scale so that transparency can be maintained in this system.
